SWAY

Copyright 2008,Bruce Docker
Woodcut, 7 x 5"
Oilbased ink on Hosho paper
Edition of 15
$40.00 each

Here is a scene from my backyard, taken
from a drawing that I did last fall. I also
made a painting of this scene. I like how the long
shadows mimic the tall tree trunks and
the fence slashes across the middle.

Linocut, 7 x 9"
(paper size - 9 1/4 x 11 1/2")
Oil based ink on Hosho paper
Edition of 15 prints
$50.00 each

I finished the final cuts on this and have completed
the printing of the edition. This is a print
of my local convenience store at
about midnight. The scene has lights coming
from every direction, from inside the store, the sign,
the canopy and the pumps.

This is my response to the current challenge
from Different Strokes from Different Folks
The goal is to complete a portrait of another artist
and that person does your portrait.
This is Sara from Portugal
I am happy with the portrait, I believe she
is also.

CAUGHT IN THE STORM

$40.00 each

I carved this in a maple block. The wood was so hard
that I spent more time sharpening my tools
than I did carving. I can see how the hardness
of the wood would be an advantage on a big
edition, but I'm more of a now kind of guy.
I think linoleum and small editions are more
to my liking now.

The idea for this print came from Sheila Thornton
and her blog Project: Old Master Copy.
I like the project. Check it out.

TORN CURTAIN - FINAL PROOF

Woodcut 5x7"
I'm nearing completion of this block. It is another based
on drawings from my backyard. Here the sun
is just a couple of hours from setting and is
beginning to shine through the lower branches,
silhouetting and distorting everything
in its path.

Oil based onk on Hosho paper
Edition of 25 prints
Linocut, 9 x 2 "
$25.00 each
including shipping in U.S.

This was fun figuring out an interesting
subject and composition for such
an odd shape of linoleum.
Somehow there is something more casual
and free about printmaking. I have a hard time
seeing myself making a painting like this.
Yet, I like this a lot.

KARIN'S SHOES

Oil based ink on Hosho paper
Edition of 15 prints
Woodcut 7 x 5"

I really liked this weeks challenge at DSDF
But, instead of painting it I obviously decided to
make a block print. I think a woodcut fits the
subject matter well.

FABLE OF THE WALKING TREES-in progress

'THE FABLE OF THE WALKING TREES'
I began printing this series today, I'm about halfway
through. Here are some pictures of my progress.

I'll post a good picture of a finished print
when I complete the series.
The block size is 5 x 14"

LIGHT PIERCES THE VEIL

Copyright 2008, Bruce Docker
Oil based ink on Hosho paper - Actual print size is 7 x 5"
Edition of 15 prints
$40.00 each including shipping

The late afternoon sun shines through the trees
creating long, dark shadows. The bright light distorts
the trunks and branches of the trees creating
a passage to push through.

I finished printing the series, cleaned everything up
and stepped back to admire my work.

A STONE IN THE RIVER OF DUST

Copyright 2008, Bruce Docker
Oil based print ink on Hosho paper - Actual print size is 5x7"
Edition of 15 prints (no proofs)
$40.00 inc. shipping

This shows the relative size of the paper compared to the print. The Hosho paper is very thick compared to the other papers I have used in the past. It is very soft and takes the ink well.

HISTORY

THE LONER

LINOCUT
#1 of 10

FRANKENSTIEN IIThree block linocut

NIETCHZE

This a linocut. It hangs in my home still.
It is a copy of an engraving from an old
Nietchze book. I like old engravings and
it was a challenge to do it in linoleum.
There is no credit given in the book to
the artist who printed the original.

BREAKFAST

There was a time I would have cigarettes
and coffee for breakfast, but I quit the smokes
years ago.
Linocut.

DOUBLE SHOT

Woodcut. A camera and
a liquor bottle.

NIGHT

An interesting nude, and the only print
I still have from this series.
Linocut - Proof

FRANKENSTEIN

A simple two color print on linoleum.
Similar in style to some paintings I
was doing at about the same time,
early '80s.
Proof

REEDS

A very simple, Japanese inspired
woodcut. Very small, about 7x3".
# 1 of 4

LOVERS

'The Lovers' was influenced by German
Expressionist print making. This is
a linocut about 8x6".
# 1 of 20

THE MARINER

The Mariner is a lonely man having
a drink or more, straight from the bottle
late at night. It is a linocut.
#3 of 20

HEAD II

This is a 12x8" woodcut. I always felt
the grain of the wood added to the
effectiveness of the print.

TWINS

This is a linocut about 6x6". It's very simple,
but I have always liked it.
#2 of 25

HEAD I

This was among the first prints I ever did.
It is a linocut that I finished in school.
I probably copied the image from a
photograph or a concert poster.
